24-Hour Emergency Response Service
Any person offering hazardous materials for transportation must provide an emergency response telephone number for use in the event of an emergency involving a hazardous material (49 CFR §172.604).
The telephone number must be monitored at all times the hazardous material is in transportation. The person monitoring the number must be knowledgeable of the hazardous material, have a comprehensive emergency response and incident mitigation information for that material, or have immediate access to a person who possesses such knowledge and information.
PMCI has partnered with Infotrac (www.infotrac.net), a state-of-the-art chemical emergency response system endorsed by the U.S. Department of Transportation, to provide 24 hour emergency response to members who ship hazardous materials.
Infotrac’s command center is manned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, by people knowledgeable of the hazardous materials or wastes being shipped and have access to comprehensive emergency response mitigation information. Infotrac’s resources allow responders access to a nationwide network of databases, experts, and agencies including poison control, hospitals, chemists, chemical engineers, and environmental specialists.
The Iowa Department of Transportation stated that 90% of Emergency Response numbers listed as a home, work, or cell number are out of compliance with 49 CFR §172.604. Emergency response numbers will be a point of emphasis in future DOT compliance checks. Fines for carriers operating without a proper 24 hour emergency response number may run up to $50,000. While other 24 hour emergency response providers may charge anywhere from $300 to $600 annually for their services, through PMCI’s agreement with Infotrac, PMCI members receive Infotrac’s service at the discounted rate of $100 annually in return for full compliance with Federal and State regulations relative to 49 CFR §172.604.
Infotrac serves 16,000 businesses and manages 9,000 hazardous materials transportation incidents nationwide. The following is a list of services which Infotrac can provide to you and your company to help insure compliance at future DOT checks:
CUSTOMIZED LABELS • SHIPPING PAPERS (GASOLINE, DIESEL, AND PROPANE)
NEWSLETTER HIGHLIGHTING REGULATORY CHANGES (OSHA, US EPA, US DOT)
DOT HELPLINE • US DOT TRAINING (INCLUDING HAZMAT REFRESHER TRAINING)
CUSTOMIZED TRAINING SPECIFIC TO YOUR OPERATION
SELF-PACED PC BASED TRAINING
Through PMCI’s relationship with Infotrac we are able to meet our 24 hour emergency response number requirement enforced by the DOT. Infotrac provides service 24 hours a day and 365 days a year with a person knowledgeable in hazardous materials. Infotrac’s service is available to PMCI members at the discounted rate of $100 annually.
