A year-round recreational and respite care facility for individuals with disabilities “… because we’re more alike than we are different.”
PMCI members began an endearing relationship with Camp Courageous in 1981 when board members toured the facility and recognized a tremendous need. Marketers were looking for an opportunity to make an industry-wide positive impact at a time when oil embargoes and negative publicity were depressing morale. Since then, PMCI members have contributed well over $1,000,000 to the Camp through various events and fundraisers.
Camp Courageous began with a land donation in 1972 and has grown and continues to operate strictly on donations, without government assistance, without formal sponsorship, and without paid fund-raisers. What this means is that everything that is given to the camp goes directly to benefit the campers. Camp Courageous™ is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization. It is not affiliated with any religion or with any national organization (such as United Way). Additional information about the camp can be found on the F.A.Q. page or at www.campcourageous.org
The Federal Tax ID number for Camp Courageous is: 23-7210932. Download an IRS letter that states the camp’s 501(c)3 status.
All people, regardless of ability level, have the right to opportunities found in the world around them. Individuals with disabilities, as well as their families, should experience year-round recreational and respite care activities in a camp setting. Camp Courageous of Iowa provides this needed service to all. The camp provides opportunities for social and personal growth within a supportive environment. Campers learn to try a variety of creative and challenging activities and experience success. Campers develop enhanced self-esteem which carries over to work, home, or school environments. More than 6,000 individuals ranging in age from 1 to 105 are served annually by Camp Courageous with your help.
